Why has Australian politics sunk so low that boorish dolts like ScoMo, Abbott and their ilk can become PM?

I remember one time when Australia had intellectuals as PMs.

The Whitlam government of 1972-1975 had one of the most educated and intellectual assembly of politicians in Whitlam's cabinet.

I thought Abbott was the bottom of the barrel until ScoMo emerged. Joyce is even lower.

The Liberal barrel must have a false bottom.

Oh and I suppose you think that Shorten and Albanese would make better PM's! šŸ¤£

But we DON'T have to wait and see how they perform as PM before we decide if they'd be WORSE?
Of course you do. Howard was terrible both as treasurer to Frazer and as opposition leader. Once he become PM many claim he was our best PM. If he'd never been elected PM because he sucked beforehand, you would never have known how good he was (in some peoples minds anyway)

My point is, how can you say that Shorten and Albanese would be worse if they've never been PM?

Typo. I meant: my point is, how can you say that Shorten and Albanese would be NO worse if they've never been PM?
because they couldn't possibly be worse for the country. Australia has never been so divided. We went from having the best performing economy under gillard / rudd and being world leaders in regards to renewables, to 12th as far as economy is going and we're so far behind the pack with renewables that we'll struggle to play catch up
