I assume the world wide web is the system that connects us via the internet, and the internet itself is a computer program that makes it all compatible.

"The Sopranos" series was inspired by a real life mafia family. Which one was it?

Oooh i'll be really interested in the answer to this, huge, huge fan of the series.

I heard it was influenced by real New Jersey Mafiosi but never knew who.

Apparently, the relationship between Tony and his horrible mother was inspired by David Chase's experiences with his own mother. Scary.

Yes, it is a New Jersey mafia family. Like other more well known mafia families, it goes by a last name.

It's the DeCavalcante family, named after Simone "Sam the plumber" DeCavalcante who took over the mafia family in 1964. Born in 1913, DeCavalcante was a member of the mafia almost all of his life. His reign as boss only lasted 5 years, however, as he was sent to prison for 5 years in 1969. Upon his release, he retired to Florida, and he died in 1997 at the age of 84.

"The Sopranos" borrowed from real life stories of the DeCavalcante family for story lines in the series. For example, in the series, the boss dies of stomach cancer which eventually led to Tony Soprano taking over the family. In real life, the acting boss died of stomach cancer. In the series, capo Vito Spatafore was murdered when it was found out that he was gay. In real life, acting boss John D'Amato was murdered in 1992 when it was found out that he was gay.

So here's another organized crime question:

The Chicago mafia organization was never named after a person, not even its most famous gangster, Al Capone. What did people call that organization? There are really two correct answers.
