Even though the US Government's Federal Bureau of Investigation (The FBI) has labeled the January 6th Capital Riots as 'Domestic Terrorism'.....some have even called it an 'Insurrection'......not one single defendant arrested & charged for the demonstrations & protests of that day, was charged for either.....Domestic Terrorism or Insurrection.......or as Terrorists or Insurrectionists in general.

The Government's employees in the FBI, & other Governmental departments, along with a few dictionaries may describe the activities of January 6th 2021 as 'Domestic Terrorism', & even 'Insurrection', but the Courts & the Departments of Justice have not levied any of those criminal accusations against any of those arrested following the events of that day.

I’m with you on this one. I don’t buy the “terror” or “insurrection” words for what happened. It was a rowdy protest that turned into a riot with the crimes that are typical in a riot - assault, vandalism, trespassing.

They disrupted the Senate’s schedule, but there was no thought of a serious attempt to overthrow the government. If you organize a force of well-armed, committed people who are willing to kill and be killed and they carry out an armed, bloody assault on the organs of power, I think we could call that an insurrection.

IMO, a terror attack has to cause mass casualties, and it has to be in furtherance of some recognizable cause.

I think it would be correct to call the guy who planted pipe bombs at the RNC and DNC headquarters a “terrorist”. I would like to see him get caught and find out what his motive was.

My beliefs don't come into it - the people involved in the January 6 insurrection fit that legal description. It's just a fact.

Oh my! So many examples! Which one to choose? How about when an Antifa fascist ambushed and murdered a guy who was walking home in Portland. How about the journaists they threatened? All for political reasons using force and intimidation.

Nobody has ever claimed that the terrorists who carried out the attack on January 6 are the only domestic terrorists in existence.

They may or may not be found guilty of violating a law that lies within Terrorism statutes.

Some words have both a legal definition and a common colloquial meaning. Causing or attempting to cause mass civilian casualties meets my definition of terrorism. Repeated attacks with small numbers of victims or singular victims would also fit, such as the hanging of a black man by KKK.

The actions of this group at the Capitol doesn’t meet my definition of terrorism.

The attacks on the Twin Towers was terrorism.
The Boston Marathon bombing was terrorism.
The San Bernardino massacre was terrorism.
The Oklahoma City bombing was terrorism.
When AQI blows up a packed Shiite mosque, that’s terrorism.
The Paris attacks were terrorism.

You can be convicted of murder in this country without personally harming anyone if you are an accomplice to a crime, even if the planned crime isn’t murder. Legally, you’re a murderer.

Michael Brown (remember him?) committed a minor petty theft from a corner store. But when the store owner protested, Brown pushed him and intimidated him, making this a Robbery for which he could be imprisoned for 5 years. Even though the push did no harm, he was no longer a petty shoplifter, but a felon, guilty of Robbery. He could have lived out his life as an ex-convict who had done hard prison time for Robbery ... for stealing a cigar and pushing someone.

Kim Potter was just convicted of manslaughter for making a mistake - an act she had no intention of doing. Is she a “murderer”? Strictly legally, yes because she’s been convicted of it.

What I’m pointing out is that “legal” is sometimes different from common understanding and use of a word.

Sorry... I totally agree that there were numerous crimes committed by the J6 rioters. Calling them “terrorists” is satisfying and sort of fun I guess to some people.

But Antifa has assaulted far more people, committed murder, invaded more occupied government buildings, and done far more damage than the J6ers.

Objectively, Antifa deserves the term more than the J6ers do.

The Trump supporters who attacked the Capitol on January 6 are terrorists, and that's not my opinion (because my opinion doesn't matter), that's a legal fact.
