Electric Vehicles this week

Sad, but necessary information. Cheers🤸
Every car looses that kind of range...Also this article is 2 years old. The new Tesla looses even less now with new batteries chemistry and electric controls..the author of the article said his Tesla lost 5% after 5 years and that would of been 7 years ago so one of the very first mass produced ones...If a model S has 700 km range and 665 km range after 5 years that’s not to bad.

It's good to get this information out there because free markets are based upon consumers knowing stuff...

I've been looking forward to this day for about 9 months, it was supposed to happen in April but C-19 delayed it.
Tesla's Battery day.
Basically was a 2 hour talk on what they are doing with their new battery packs.
They started from the raw materials and worked from there and have devised a 57% reduction in price. They are building them now but not to scale, probable be 2 years before they start being in full production.
They have changed how batteries are made and what they are made from... Including a huge idea of the batteries being structural, therefore part of the weight of the car....They are also removing Cobalt, a toxic and expensive metal and only sourced from a very dodgy country.
Tesla battery packs are already 30% cheaper than any other competitor...

It basically means the batteries will be cheaper, the cars lighter and be able to be recharged faster, 2-3 years Tesla is predicting their EV's to be priced the same as your average car.

They are also planing on increasing Battery production thousand fold in to tetra-watts instead of just Gigawatts of production..
The only material that could be in short supply will be Nickel, as they also found a new way to extract lithium from clay and now have enough sourced just in Nevada to power every vehicle in the USA.....

They have basically put every other car manufacturer on notice....As well as every other Battery manufacturer ....

Tesla's Battery day.

there were a few announcements expected that apparently didn't come through ... the million mile battery and a specific cost reduction programme ... neither were announced so shareholders wiped $70b off the share value of the company

yup every time one of these Tesla Days happen a stock drop happens then a week or two later when it all sinks in they really rise....
yeah $453 down to $424, so now only worth 400 Billion USD... Toyota the second most valuable car company is worth 184 billion for some prospective

They did say though that their new battery wont get anywhere near as hot while recharging and that basically means they will last longer....
The new Top of the range Tesla will have 520 miles range next year and even with their existing battery that would give over one million miles of battery life...
They paid for the patents for the million mile battery they will definitely be using the tech...

The million mile battery idea is based on how many times the battery can be recharged, now they can be recharged around 2000 full recharges before they loose 20% capacity, the new tech Tesla developed should make them 4000 times recharged..

so the lowest range Tesla now can do 500,000 miles (250miles range) and their longest range can do 800,000 miles (400 miles range)...

It will effect all lithium batteries like phones and laptops and power tools as well.

I agree the share price will come back. I suspect both goals will be achieved at some point, it's just that being a pioneer means its hard to predict how long it will take for technology to get there

September 2020 was an exceptionally strong and quite interesting month of plug-in electric car sales in Norway, as several models noted very high results.
Let's start from the overall passenger plug-in car registration numbers - 12,689 (up 75.6% year-over-year) is close to the all-time record of 12,764 (March 2019).
But most importantly, we noted a new all-time record of market share - 81.6%! Unbelievable! The ICE and conventional cars already soon might be almost totally wiped out.

Stats for the month:
  • BEVs: 9,560 (up 57.1%, at 61.5% market share) + 751 ‘used’ + 308 vans (306 new and 2 used)
  • PHEVs: 3,129 (up 174.7%, at 20.1% market share)
  • Total: 12,689 (up 75.6%, at 81.6% market share)

Meanwhile in Australia:tweed

On this day in 2010, Tesla opened its first factory. Which was formerly a GM-Toyota factory, now Tesla is worth more than GM & Toyota combined

Exploding head

The Tesla Model 3 Performance has proven itself to be a rather frightening force in rallies, after the all-electric sedan completely dominated the 130 class of the Targa West Rally, ending the race nearly 10 minutes ahead of a lineup of fossil fuel-powered competitors. The Model 3 Performance was driven by Jurgen and Helen Lunsmann, veteran racers who drove the vehicle over four days to complete the 1,000 km race.

Interestingly enough, the Model 3 Performance, which was racing for West Australian EV charging business Gemtek, is the first all-electric car to dominate the Targa West Rally’s 130 class (130 km/hr speed limited) in such a definitive fashion. So impressive was the Model 3 Performance that it actually beat the times of cars that were competing in the 165 class, which allowed vehicles to go as fast as 165 km/hr. The Tesla still dominated the winner of the 165 class by over 4 minutes.

Wow, this is amazing, Electric Vehicles and especialy the Tesla Model 3 are just blowing away other cars on the track now....
More interestingly is the Model 3's can only have the aerodynamics, suspension and Brakes modified, the power train is stock.....
Unlike all the highly tuned race cars it was competing with....
It even beat the next class up by 4 minutes.... Incredible....

It's well worth watching the video of the last race it won and the end of the Link...Love the sound.....Sounds like something from Star Wars.....

Is a nice sound—I expected an electrical whine.
first one is a little clip on the new 2000HP lotus then the next it one of the most amazing racing video I've seen of VW's electric race car in China, both the sound is Amazing.....They sound like what Sci Fi shows have been using for future vehicles for years.....
Warning the second video the car is so fast it's scary if you watch in full screen.....keep a eye on the speed on the bottom right...Thankfully no one edited a music track into it either.....

As reported by Transport & Environment (T&E), Volkswagen’s statement explains that the "so-called potential of these alternatives for liquid fuels is [...] massively overestimated,” as well as “complex, cost-intensive, not very climate-efficient and with low efficiency.”

Another company that has realized Hydrogen is just not feasible with current technology and probable never will be....

The automotive market in China is returning to growth. In September, overall car sales increased by 8% year-over-year, while the plug-in segment went up by 66% year-over-year to 131,022.

China is the biggest market in the world and it's booming..... Meanwhile in Aus :tweed

September 2020 was a spectacular month for passenger plug-in electric car sales globally. The volume reached an all-time high of 345,000 (up 91% year-over-year)!

That is an equivalent of 4.9% of the total car market, which means that one in 20 new cars is already rechargeable.

See more of our sales reports for September 2020.

All-electric cars are responsible for 68% of the volume (some 241,000), while plug-in hybrids for the remaining 32% (104,000), noting a higher growth rate of 120% year-over-year.

Damm that is amazing.....

The SA Liberal have done it again, showing how it should be done.. If only QLD Labor party could get off their asses and do this as well Big battery projects and Virtual Power plants like SA, this state would be a much better place, I suppose Labor are just pandering to Adani to much to care about stuff like this........Even NSW have approved a big battery......
