Covid-19 Revisit

Just returned from metal-detecting with friends and family at the Spit. It was so good to see the beaches filled with people and their dogs again. None were wearing silly masks, or keeping 2 meters apart. I was even happy to see people boating, surfing, and jet skiing again. Even the silly kids jumping off the bridge at the dog-friendly beach, only gave me a chuckle. I was also happy to see, that the Australia Fair SC was also filled with people again. None there were wearing silly masks(even the cleaners and security guards). Or, were keeping 2 meters apart from each other, like sheep. Maybe it is just something in the waters at the Gold Coast? Maybe people have come to realize, that these are just impractical, immature, and impossible solutions? Or, maybe some people just love spreading misery and despair? I don't know, but it was certainly a good day for me.

I was just so happy to see people again, living their dreams and thinking for themselves.

or maybe it has NEVER been required on the GC.Oops
NEVER, JOHN??? And, WHY would restrictions not be required in one area of Queensland, and not in others, John? What makes the Gold Coast residents the exception to the restrictions, John? Are they the only humans on the planet who are immune to the virus, John? Do you agree, that the Gold Coast residents should NOT wear masks, NOT practice social distancing, NOT keep businesses open, or act like they are free in a free country, John? And WHY?

.

And, the only thing that continually surprises me, is the human condition.

because there was never any community transmission on the GC... As far as I can recall every case we've had has been from people from other areas traveling to or through the GC.
As of the 17th Jan. 2021, there are only 26 active Covid-19 cases all over Queensland. Out of a population of over 5M people(700K at the Gold Coast). Even in Victoria, there are only 30 active cases(6.4M people).

Again, you are only partially correct. The greatest source of this infection on the Gold Coast, was overseas acquired(145 people). The second was locally(community) acquired, where the contact is known/unknown(67 people). But here's the part you got right. The very last method of acquiring this virus at the Gold Coast, was from interstate travelers, or from people just passing through(2 people). That's 2 people infected by visitors, out of a GC population of 700K. I would say not that significant, but nevertheless true.

Of course this was never the point. My point was, that I am happy to see people ignoring the other Statewide/Nationwide bans and restrictions, and choosing to live free and happy lives. Did you know that you could be sentenced to 6 months in jail for not wearing a mask, or not keeping 2 meters apart? Fascism!
